Annual Alumni Meet - 2024

The 17th Annual General Body meeting (GBM) for the year 2024 is held on 03 Nov 2024 at UGC Auditorium of JNTU Hyderabad.

Approximately 100 members of the Association were present. After ascertaining the adequacy of the strength for the Quorum, the President of the Association promulgated the AGM as open at 12.30 Hrs on 03 November, 2024.


General Body Meeting:

Sri CSY Sankar Rao, President of the Association in his opening remarks welcomed the members and informed them that the tenure of the present Committee would come to an end on 31 Dec 2024 and the reins of the association will be passed over to the new elected Committee for which nominations were called for. He requested the members to remain present till the end of the AGM and asked the Secretary to the Association to proceed with the business.

Colonel G. Ravi Kumar (Retired), Secretary to the Association thanked the members who were present and informed the General Body that the present Executive Committee was installed for a term of Two years during the 15th Annual General Body meet held in November 2022 at the same location. Thus the term of this Executive Committee will be coming to an end by the end of this year. We thus need to elect a new Executive Committee for the coming Two year period of 2025 and 2026. He further stated that Sri KV Varma (1963 Elec - P 46), who kindly consented to be the Returning Officer for the elections and who oversaw the entire process of scrutiny of nominations received, their eligibility and withdrawals etc. will be announcing the details and proceed with subsequent process to finalise the new Committee after the Secretary and Treasurer’s annual reports.


Homage to the departed Alumnus

Before commencing the proceedings, the Secretary requested the members present to raise and observe Two minutes of silence in the honour of the Alumni members who left us during the past one year for their heavenly abode. The same was observed.


Welcome to the new Patrons & Life Members of the Association

The Secretary informed the General Body that the present as well as the previous Executive Committees always worked with the aim of improving the economic health of the Association by way of active campaigning amongst its fraternity, aimed at reaching a stage where by the Association becomes self sustaining. He then informed the General Body that this membership drive resulted into induction of few more new Patrons and Life Members during the year under review, mainly thanks to the members of Class of 1982. He further informed the General Body that the association as on the date of the AGM has 109 Patrons and more than 365 Life Members. He then extended his welcome to the new members of the Association and requested the members to join him in welcoming them with a loud applause. All members present applauded thus extending their welcome wishes to the newly admitted members of the Association.


Proposals ⁄ Resolutions for the consideration of the General Body

The Secretary then brought to the notice of the General Body of the Notice sent to them for transacting certain special business during the AGM. He then projected the following Proposals and read them over seeking the approval of the General Body:-


Proposal No. 1

Ex post facto approval of the General Body for an annual donation of Rs. 1,00,000 (Rs. One Lac only) to KEATS (Kakinada Engineering Alumni Trust for Services) every year during the month of March towards annual scholarship scheme to deserving economically weak students of ECK. 4 or 5 students of the college will be awarded these scholarships which will be termed as “Hyderabad chapter of Alumni Association Scholarships”. The Secretary also informed that this Proposal is in accordance to the main objective of the Association contained in Bye-Law No. 7 (4) and it further entails Sec 80G benefit under the IT Act. The Proposal received the unanimous approval of the General Body by Show of Hands and Voice Vote.


Proposal No. 2

Ex post facto approval of the General Body is sought for the expenditure of Rs. 50,000/- incurred as a one time grant to the charitable organisation known as Sri Ramakrishna Seva Samithi, Bapatla being run by Sri A. Naresh, our Alumni of 1982 (Mech) batch. This organisation provides education, food and clothing to about 50 children from its neighbouring localities in the evening from 4 PM to 9 PM. The Samithi imparts education in Yoga, Bhagawatgita, martial arts and languages to these children. The Proposal received the unanimous approval of the General Body by Show of Hands and Voice Vote).


Proposal No. 3

Amendment to Bye Law No. 12(2). to read as “General Body meeting will be convened at least once in a year and preferably on the first Sunday of November (in place of last Sunday of December) every year. The General Body meeting may be called for more times also for taking important decisions. The Proposal received the unanimous approval of the General Body by Show of Hands and Voice Vote).


Proposal No. 4

Approval to incur a maximum expenditure of Rs.4,00,000 (Rupees Four Lacs only) from the Association funds towards sponsoring a bronze “Goddess Saraswathi Statue” to be installed in the main foyer of the University building, as requested by the Vice Chancellor. Sponsorship details will be prominently mentioned on the Statue. The President at this point informed the General Body that the overall cost of the Bronze statue including its installation will be to the tune of Rs. 3 to 3.5 Lacs and Sri KI. Vara prasada Reddy (1970 ECE - P 17), a senior Patron of the Association assured a contribution of 50% of the cost towards this proposal. The Proposal received the unanimous approval of the General Body by Show of Hands and Voice Vote).

The Secretary then requested the Treasurer of the Association, Sri K. Gopala Krishna to present the Annual Accounts report to the General Body.

The Treasurer read over the Accounts Statement and presented the Audit Report for the FY 2023-24 for the information of the General Body and sought for its approval. The accounts were passed unanimously, without any observation. Proposed by Sri Kovvuri Subbi Reddy (1965 ECE - P 52) and seconded by Sri KVR Subramaniam and Col. D Hanumantha Rao (1966 elected- P 85).

After the approval of the Accounts by the General Body, following proposal was moved by the Secretary & Treasurer :-

To consider and if thought fit, to pass with or without modification(s), the following resolution as an ORDINARY RESOLUTION:


The Executive Committee is recommending the Appointment of M/s. KCMS & Associates (Sri L. Murali Mohan Reddy at Srinagar Colony, Hyderabad) as Auditors for the Association for FY 2025-26 & FY 2026 - 27 for the consideration and acceptance of the General body.


(Discussions ensued on this proposal and members present expressed differing `views. Thus by majority consensus it was agreed to leave the decision of appointing auditors for the FY 2025 and 2026 to the new Executive Committee).


Elections to the new Executive Committee for the years 2025 & 2026

The Secretary then requested the Election Officer, Sri KV Varma to intimate the General Body of the details of nominations received for various appointments of the new Executive Committee and conduct the Elections / announce the final results.

Sri KV Varma then projected the list of nominations which were found to be in order after their scrutiny to ascertain their eligibility for the posts and taking into account of the withdrawals. He then informed that though the Elections were called for one post of Vice President, he received Two nominations. After careful analysis and consultations with the present Executive Committee, he felt the necessity of allowing both the nominations as uncontested. He then announced the final results of the Executive Committee for the years 2025 & 2026, as under:-

Vote of Thanks:

After the announcement of the results by the Election Officer, the Vice President, R Adm SVS Chary (Retired) , who is the new President elect for the years 2025 & 2026, thanked the members of the General Body for patiently taking active part in the AGM and proposed Vote of Thanks.


The Conclusion of the Meeting

After the “Vote of Thanks”, the National Anthem was played and all members present paid their respect by raising & maintaining silence. There being no other business, the 17th Annual General Body meeting was declared closed at 1330 Hrs (1.30 PM) on 03 November, 2024.
